Display a KPI need the same Dimension on its Value and Target?

I mean, I have a KPI, it's value is set to a measure of a measuregroup based on a facttable A. and it's Target is set to a measure of another measuregroup based on another facttable B.

Now I want to display the KPI, with a given dimension's slice. My question is, is it needed that the dimension I chose must be shared by both the measures of KPI's Value and Target? For an example, If I dispaly the KPI with the Promotion Dimention, and the Promotion Dimention has a relation to the KPI's Value's related measure(There's a PromotionKey column in facttable A; ), but it has no relation to the KPI's Target's related measure(There's NOT a PromotionKey column in facttable B).

Could I do so?

I think this is SSAS question. I moved it to the SSAS forum...|||

OK.

Help, Help! Thanks.

|||

The KPI should work similarly to the underlying measures - so, in your example, the KPI Target behavior will depend on how the IgnoreUnrelatedDimensions property of the "facttable B" Measure Group is set. If true (default), then the KPI Target should be unaffected by slicing the Promotion dimension; if false, the KPI Target should become null.

KPI trigger creation of hidden calculated measures only if the MDX expression for the KPI property is not a simple reference to some measure (either calculated or physical). However, if the expression is a simple reference, such as [Measures].[Sales], then no hidden calculated measure will be created, and KPIValue, KPIGoal, KPITrend etc functions will simply return that measure.

Display a image based on a value field

Hello friends
I have a problem displaying a picture on a table detail based on a value of
a column.
If this column have a value greather than 10, show a image, else show
another image. I don't know how to call the images on the statement below
=IIf(Fields!DIAS.Value > 10, show_image_1, show_image_2)
I've added the images to the project as a embedded images.
Can anyone please help me or give me an example?
Thanks for Help
BrunoI only know one line of VB code, which is what I use to show/hide
report elements. Maybe you can use it to help you write yours to work
the way it needs to.
=IIF(Parameters!ReportGroup.Value = 1 AND Parameters!ReportType.Value =1, False, True)|||Hi Bruno
I'm only a novice, but this works:
Create two identical table rows, one below the other, each row has one cell
showing the (same) database field - e.g. "ID" and one cell to hold the
appropriate image - row 1 holds image1, row2 holds image2.
Now set the visibility of each row using expressions:
row1: =iif(Fields!ID.value<10,true,false)
row2: =iif(Fields!ID.value>=10,true,false)
when you run the report, the rows will be visible with the appropriate
images appearing as the ID.values change

you've embedded. In the properties of the image, you should be able to
see how the image is referred to in the "value" property. Now wrap the
=IIf statement around this. The image name will have to be in double
quotes because you are passing a string value to the property. For
example;
=IIf(Fields!DIAS.Value > 10, "Image1.gif", "Image2.gif")
If you wanted to show now image you could do;
=IIf(Fields!DIAS.Value > 10, Nothing, "Image2.bmp")
I haven't tried this but see no reason it shouldn't work for both
RS2000 or RS2005.
Cheers
Chris

Disecting date into segments

I have a date that I get from my now() function that returns:

2/10/2004 2:17:16 PM

I would like to be able to break this value up. Is there a function that
allows me to pull whatever I want out of this?

For example, if I just want the year 2004 pulled out (for a drop down
list I'm creating) what would the function be to do that?
And If I just want the day, 10 pulled out, then how would I do that?

part of the problem is that depending on the month, is the number of
digits one counts from the front. 10,11,12 add one digit to the front of
the string, making this difficult.

I'm creating a search between dates so someone can select the day, month
and year as beginning value, and the end value. So how would I go about
disecting this string?

Thanks,

Bill

DATEPART ( datepart , date )

Arguments
datepart

Is the parameter that specifies the part of the date to return. The
table lists dateparts and abbreviations recognized by Microsoft SQL
Server.

Datepart Abbreviations
year yy, yyyy
quarter qq, q
month mm, m
dayofyear dy, y
day dd, d
week wk, ww
weekday dw
hour hh
minute mi, n
second ss, s
millisecond ms

Also be aware of the data in the table. If it includes time, you'll
want to accomodate for that in your between / ( >= <= ).|||Bill (williamzim2000@.yahoo.com) writes:

In SQL Server there is datepart. On the other hand there is no Now()
function, so I suspect that you are in the wrong newsgroup. Hm, let's
see, Now() smells like Access but also Visual Basic. I think that there
is a datepart() function in VB too. Then again, whatever you are using
it's likely to come with online documentation, so check there.,

Discrepancy on Number of Rows

Hi There,

Good Day :-)

How could I correct the erroneous value on the property window of an SQL Table.

My problem is that, if I am going to display the property window of Table1, the 'Rows' information displays 115. However, if I am going to execute - Select Count(*) from Table1 then it returns 117. How could I fix this glitch?

Please Help :-)Run UPDATE STATISTICS on the table(s).

Also, Enterprise Manager checks the state of various databases and database objects when it first starts up, or when they are first selected. It won't reflect changes to the database made since the initial check unless you refresh the Enterprise Manager view.|||It isn't strictly a glitch either - they are both counting different things. Anyway - more info in a currently active thread http://www.dbforums.com/showthread.php?t=1608419

Disappearing Measures?

Not sure what I could have done to make this happen ... but one of my simple measures (simply a row count of my fact table) no longer shows a value EXCEPT when I use it with one of my multi-level hierarchies I defined.

Has anyone seen this?

Is there a way to fix it?

I really have no idea what I coulda done. I've even commented out my calculated members and removed any non-regular dimensions and it still ain't working.

Thanks - WaydeDoes your calculations script contain a CALCULATE command? Without this no aggregation will be done and only the leaf cells will contain data.

Disabling report processing

Hi
I have to disable report processing at certain times for some reports. It's
like when you don't have selected a value in a combo parameter. I have a
function that returns true if you can view the report or false if don't.
Any ideas?

Disable grouping

I would like to be able to disable grouping depending on the value of parameter. At the moment I have the following expression for grouping:
=IIf(Parameters!Group2.Value.equals(""), false, Fields(Parameters!Group2.Value).Value)

What I am trying to do is if the value of the Group2 parameter = "" turn off grouping. Group2 is assigned a value from the following custom code:

Function Group2Value() As String
Dim Group As String
Group = ""
Select Case Report.Parameters!ReportType.Value
Case "1"

Group = ""

Case "2"

Group = "CategoryID"

Case "3"

Group = "StockFamilyID"

Case "4"

Group = "GroupID"

Case "5"

Group = ""

Case "6"

Group = "SaleableGLCodeID"

End Select
Return Group
End Function

However this is not working.

Can grouping be disabled and if so what am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.
can't you just set grouping to =1 ?

this technique can also be used in a matrix when you need an extra grouping for e.g. to display count AND amount but don't physically want to group the data|||

Yes, Grouping can be disabled.

Try doing the entire calculation in the custom code and place the name of the function in the expression for Grouping.

The Grouping expression as =Code.Group2Value()

Now based on whatever value is returned from the function Group2Value, the grouping will be done accordingly.

disable containter with runtime value does not work

Il try to disable a containter by an expression but it seems not to work (in VS Debug Mode).

I have an variable defined with int value 1

I use the expression !(@.[User::InteresentenAnzahl]>0) to disable the container.

In between i use and select count(*) from table to populate the variable with the record count.

MY problem is - ssis uses always the design time value of the variable and not the runtime value from the variable.

What could be wrong? Is this possible?

I want to disable tasks because my dependency chain require that some later (dependend) tasks need to be executed.

Best Regards

HANNES

Why you want to enable/disable task based on a condition? Perhpars, you need to make a better use of the precedence constraints in the control flow (yes, the green arrows). You can use expression there that would evaluate the value of the variable and decide wheter or not execute task|||

i have a chain of lets say three containters - container one queries the records, countainer two has something to do or not dependend on result of container one (variable) - and countainer tree does something special what need to be done after two.

If I use an expression all later containers does not execute - but if i disable container two contaier three does execute - and thats what i need.

Could you tell me how to configure precedence constraints if the prev container does not execute and the following should execute.

(

this explanation is shorted for the forum - in reall it is processing with some more dependent tasks

1) count new records

2) process add if new records and

3) set last prcessing date (for reporting)

- and processing add needs 20 minutes for zero rows - so why should i execute it) - but I need the last potential processed date to show up how actual data is - this needs to run after a sucessfull process oder if the package runs and no process occured

)

Best regards

Take a look at this blog post: http://bi-polar23.blogspot.com/2007/05/conditional-task-execution.html

It's not 100% what you're trying to accomplish, but I believe the same technique that worked for me should work for you in this scenario as well.

Basically what you need is an extra container around that thing (be it a task or a container) that you want to disable. Then in the precedence constraint from that new outer container, have the constraint based on an expression. The outer container will execute regardless of whether the inner one does, so the precidence constraints that flow from it will be valid.

And if you need a way to tie a task's execution to an expression but do not know if the task above it will execute, you can add a placeholder Script task above it.

Both of these techniques are demonstrated in this blog post, but please post back here if this doesn't give you all that you need.

|||You should connect the first container to the second and third containers. Also connect the second to the third. Then set the precedence constraints between 1 & 2 with the constraint being between 1 & 3 the converse of 1 & 2.

So, for example:

constraint between 1 & 2 : Execute 2 if myVar == 1
constraint between 1 & 3: Execute 3 if myVar != 1|||

Phil Brammer wrote:

I am wrong? but if for container three containter two and container one is required then 3 does not execute if 2 does not execute because 2 &3 does never report completion!

And if I do not have a constraint between 2 & 3 - 3 gets executed if 2 fails!

|||

I do not believe that you are wrong - this is the reason I use "empty" Script tasks as placeholders in this sort of scenario so that there is some task from which a precedence constraint can be originated without adding any "real" functionality to the package.

First, you set up an OR condition, not an AND condition on the precedence constraints on #3. Also, you do have a precedence constraint between 2 and 3. There just isn't an expression there. (You can put one there if needed.)

#1 -- myVar==1 --> #2 -> #3
| myVar!=1 --> #3|||

Im sorry, but I did not get it.

IF I Setup OR then

- #3 maybe executed befor two

- and whats more dramatic #3 maybe executed if #2 fails - and thats not allowed

|||

Phil,

I think that approach does not cover the fact 3 should not be executed if 2 fails.

A while ago, In this post I used a similar approach to what Matt describes; in my case I use an empty dataflow as a place holder, so Script task is not the only one you can use.

No. Not true.

SC1 will flow to either SC2 or SC3 depending on the expression and how its evaluated. If the flow goes down the SC2 path, then it will execute SC3 only if SC2 was successful. In this case, the execution of SC1 is irrelevant because of the OR'd precedence constraint. (The expression between SC1 and SC2 would be false in this case).

If the flow goes down the SC3 path because @.myVar != 1, then SC2 will never get executed.

Does this make sense?|||

Hi Refael - thats why i ask.

I don't know if this is a bug or an underdocumented feature, but it appears that you are not the only one with this issue:

http://www.developerdotstar.com/community/node/345

I've always thought of the Disable property as a design-time tool, not a run-time tool, although I've never seen it officially documented as such.

Pretty sure...

In this control flow, it looks to me like if Sequence Container 1 succeeds and Sequence Container 2 fails, Sequence Container 3 will still execute. I may be missing something, but I remember fighting with similar approaches when coming up with my "Script task as placeholder) technique.
