Display a report in fullscreenmode

Hello,
is it possible to open a report in fullscreenmode automatically? Perhaps there might be a http parameter?

Current view:

Now a click on the button on the right side. This is the view i want to see when i open a report.

Did anyone have an idea how i can achieve my goal?

Thanks for your help!

Display a report in a WinForm client

Hi everyone!
This question has probably been asked many of times and I apologize for
asking again.
What is the best way to display a report in a WinForm client?
Thanks,
YEither embed IE control and use URL integration or use web services. With
Widbey and Yukon MS has announced a winform control but until then you have
to jump through more hoops.

Display a datagrid using the dataset as the source?

I am not sure how to display this in my report. I have dataset that queries the database to find a list of ingredients. I would like each ingredient listed in a grid. Under each individual ingredient is its amount, which is found from the database, using the Product and Ingredient name discussed above. The ingredient dataset has a list of ingredients. So I need the first one displayed in the first field, the second in the second field and so on. Then I need to ordert the Amounts Dataset properly so that the amount appears directly below the appropriate ingredient. How do you make a table cell display the first member of a dataset, then the second cell display the second and so on? Right now it is trying to display all the ingredients in one cell. I hope this makes sence. Thanks.I dont know if that makes any sence, so I found some better words to describe my problem. I have a table that I would like to transpose. This table could be long, so I only want it transposed for 5 or 5 columns, then word-wrapped to the next line so it can all fit on one page. How do you transpose a table. Is this a reporting issue, or should this be done on the Sql side? Thanks.sql

Display "Last Run Date" in report!

Is there a way to display the "Last Run Date" in the actual report? The short answer is no, though you could try writing a custom assembly that
passes a report path on the server and then return the ExecutionDate
property via soap.
The properties you will need to build the report path are ReportServerURL,
ReportFolder, and ReportName.

actual timestamp of data and report processing of a particular report (or
history snapshot)?
If it is the latter one, then just add a textbox with =Now to the report.
When the report is rendered live and no execution caching is involved, then
the expression will return the current timestamp (because the data and the
report layout is processed live). If execution caching is involved the
textbox with have the timestamp of the execution snapshot. Finally, if you
render an historic snapshot, the textbox will have the timestamp when the
snapshot has been created (unless you re-process a parameterized history
snapshot where expressions will get re-evaluated).

In Reporting Services there is no inbuild formula for Daily, Weekly etc

You will have to perform these calculations inside the stored procedure and return the dataset back to the RDL.

Reporting Services provides us with some grouping functions which can be found at

Dislpay Report Parameters selectively?

I was wondering if there is a way I can selective display report parameters?
For example, I have one parameters that lets the user select a report type.
If the user selects 'Daily' I want to display the report parameter that
allows the user select a date. On the other hand if the user selects
'Monthly' I want to display a drop down list that has all months preloaded.
I do not want the dropdown list that contains months to show up if the user
wants to run a 'Daily' report.
Any help would be much appreciated!
TIA
VinayPresuming that you are also able to display a drop-down list of available
dates if the user selects 'Daily' then the way I would do this is to have a
dataset using a stored procedure which takes the Daily/Monthly parameter and
generates the drop-down list accordingly.

Disk usage Report

There needs to be two levels of disk usage reports, one that just reads the meta data (similar to 2000 functionality), and displays the pretty graphs, and then the one that is currently available that does the index analysis and so on. I have a 1.2 TB database on 2005 and it takes forever to pull up that report (which my client has decided they love)...

Also, I do not know how hard it would be to keep a running analysis of database/index fragmentation, but that would be a nice feature also, even if it was an enterprise only feature.

Just a thought.

Hi Jake,

Thanks for the feedback. I'll pass it along to the PM who owns the reports in SSMS.

Cheers,
Dan

Discussion about SDL

As we all know, SDL is represented as XML format. I found that representing
the report layout in XML make the size of report grow very fast and hurt the
performance significantly.
I am currently working on a project with complicated reports. When the
report size grow to several MB, editing the report costs a lot of time.
Does anyone have similar experience? And is this essential to represent the
report layout in XML rather than binary? If the report is in binary and can
be exported to XML, would it be better?Using the RDL reader/writer you can have your report in Assemblies and
serialize or deserialze whenever you want:

Disbling parameters pased in URL

Hi,
I'm passing in parameters via the URL. Is there a way to disable some
parameters so users can't change them once the report is displayed in the
browser and ready to run? I don't see it in 2000, but maybe it's in 2005
which I haven't purchased yet.
thanks,

report is launched.
Here is how I'm launching my report from a .aspx file:
<FORM id="frmRender"
action="http://myreporserver/reportserver?<%=Request("RPT")%>" method="post">
<INPUT type="hidden" name="rs:Command" value="Render">
<INPUT type="hidden" name="rc:LinkTarget" value="main">
<INPUT type="hidden" name="rs:Format" value="HTML4.0">
<input type="hidden" name="db" value=<%=Session("HostDB")%>>
<input type="hidden" name="Company" value=<%=Session("CompanyName")%>>
</FORM>
Once it launches, the DB and Company parameters show in the toolbar. I'd
like to disable those. I can't hide the whole toolbar because there will be
parameters that require the user to select from a dropdownlistbox.
thanks,
-Trish

Disappearing text boxes when exporting to PDF

I'm having a problem with text boxes disappearing when a report is exported
to PDF. Everything appears fine in the designer and in Report Manager, even
when exporting to Excel, but when the report is exported to PDF, a couple of
text boxes (one being a label above a table, and the other, next to the
label, shows a company name returned from a stored procedure) appear on some
pages of the report, but not on others. There is another text box label, and
another text box beside it which returns a company's branch name...this is
directly under the company name...this appears OK on the PDF. There are no
null/blank company names being returned in the dataset.
I created a test copy of the same report (from scratch) and exported it to
PDF. This time, the company name text boxes that were missing before appeared
OK, but went missing on other pages which were previously fine.
I've tried putting the text boxes into a rectangle, even a list, but to no
avail. I can't really see any pattern to the problem...the two copies of the
report are returning exactly the same data, but the company name text boxes
randomly disappear.
Can anyone shed some light on this problem? Is it a bug?
Thanks in advance.

The "export engines" as they are often called are black boxes and yes,
I think you are seeing evidence that the PDF export engine has defects.
I have "solved" similar problems through hours of fiddling redesign.
The PDF engine has problems with the widths of things, with things next
to each other horizontally, and don't ever overlap ReportItems by so
much as a single twip or you'll regret it.
Interesting that for you also there is no obvious consistent pattern to
what works and what does not, my experience precisely.
I have moaned and groaned about these issues for a week or two without
getting any meaningful answers from Microsoft support, sometimes
without getting any answers at all.
One hopes that SP2 will address these genuine showstopper issues. It's
one thing for members of an IT organization to put up with a
not-done-yet product like Microsoft SQL Reporting Services, quite
another for business users: they WON'T put up with it. They won't buy
solutions based on it. They will renege on deals already made because
of it. They are uninterested in WHY I can't do for them what needs
doing in a way that is useful to them, all they care about is that I
didn't do it as I said I would.
Under the gun but smiling, smiling, I am
Highly Obscure|||I can most definately relate to your experiences! If I weren't smiling
through it all, I reckon I'd be a basket-case!!
Speaking of smiling, the latest installment of this saga had me and the
senior DBA laughing...
Originally, the company name text box label had a location of 0cm, 0cm on
the list that it was sitting on. Thought I'd nudge everything down a little,
just so it wasn't at the very top of the list control. Exported it to
PDF...HEY PRESTO! A perfect PDF report! Go figure.
Still doesn't explain why previously some text box controls were appearing
on some pages and not on others, but I (and the customer) are happy with what
we've got now.

Disappearing parameter values

I have an ASP.NET application with a page which has a Reportviewer control
linked to a Reporting Services report on a Remote Server. I pass parameters
into it OK including the name of the database which is then referenced by a
dynamic connection string. The database is the first parameter. Other
parameters have dropdown lists based on datasets using the dynamic connection
string.
All of this works fine, but...
When I hide some of the parameters, because I know what value is required,
the value is not acceoted, nor does the report use the default value. It is
as though hiding the parameter prevents the list of available values being
requeried; consequently the passed in value is ignored as it does not match
an available value!
Can anyone help please?
Thanks
GeorgeGeorge,
I assume you are setting the Visible property of some web control that
holds the value of your report parameter. You should set the Visibility
Style of the control to 'hidden' so that it still gets rendered into the web
form but is not 'seen' in the web browser. This way the controls value is
still within the form and viewstate when the form is posted back.
Hope I made the correct assumption and this helps.
thx

I'm not sure I've explained the problem correctly, as I could not find the
Visibility Style for the control as you suggested. I am using RS2005 and
ASP.NET 1.1 with a ReportViewer control linked to a deployed remote report.
But I think you may be on to something as the problem does not arise when
designing the report, nor in Report Manager, only when I run it from within
the ASP ReportViewer control as a Remote Report.
The parameter is passed into the Reporting Services report OK, but when the
Report Server processes the parameters it first takes the name of the
database as the first parameter, then it recognises that there are cascading
parameters because the dropdown lists require data from tables which have
been queried using the dynamic connection string. At this point it seems to
assume that because it is going to refresh the dropdown lists that it can no
longer rely on the selections supplied in the other parameters and scrubs
them i.e. it insists that the user rekey each of the parameter values
wherever the dropdown lists use the dynamic connection string.
This causes two problems:
1 When I want a parameter value hidden, it is impossible to set it and the
report fails with e.g. "Parameter zzz does not have a value". I could get
round this by using two parameters for each value, one for when I want to
force the parameter to be a certain value and hide it with no associated
dropdown list, and one for when I want to show it and ask the user to pick
from a list. Messy, but I could get the report SQL to test for either of the
values in the two parameters. But this still leaves problem number 2...
2 When cascading parameters are used, each time the user picks a value, it
postbacks to the server. This is not very clever of Reporting Services. It
should post back when the value for a parameter is changed where that
parameter is used by other parameters, not when a parameter changes which
uses the value from another parameter.
The long and short of it is that with eight parameters, the selection of
report options is excruciatingly slow and won't be acceptable to my users.
If you or anyone else can shed any light on this problem, I would be really
grateful.
Thanks again and best wishes

Disappearing Datasets (MDX) in Report Designer

Hi,
we encountered a lot of problems with MDX-Datases in the CTP-verisons, but
now it's even worse!
We designed a little report against one of our cubes with only one Dataset
and immediate preview and saved it immediately. The report worked fine. Then
we clicked on the Dataset tab, and the filters and the levels (fields) are
EMPTY! Of course the next preview fails.
Closing the report asks if we want to save the changes, but we don't.
If we now re-open the project, it's just the same: preview o.k., click on
Dataset-tab -> EMPTY, changes were made!
What could be the problem?
If we re-open again and Click Preview, Dataset, Layout in this order,
"Visual Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close"!
Sometimes - we are not able to examine the exact conditions so far - VS
closes without any comment: We start the Report Designer and use
AdventureWorks as a new shared datasource. If the query builder opens we
switch into design mode. If the first action is a right-click into the
design-area, either VS disappears or "Visual Studio has encountered a
problem and needs to close"!.
Any ideas?

Disappear the generic bar.

Hallo all :

How to disappear the generic bar in the report, or to disappear some options (example export). I speak about the bar which in the top of the report or there are the numbers of pages.

Thank's.

Right-click on the report once it has finished retrieving data and select properties. You can use the URL in the properties to point to a report that does not have the toolbar. (using /reportserver/ url instead of /reports)

There are also rc: commands to turn off the toolbars.

23 1/1/07 a f d

12 .. .

Like this now in my report I want to display like the following:

Case :23

Date:1/1/07

Route:a

Reason :b

..

this is one page

and in the second page : display the next case information.

Like that Other than Using Table what is the best way to display data like this. Each row from the Select need to be display in one page based on the Case parameter selection.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I am displaying the each field in the one detail row of table and applied the grouping to the Table based on CaseID to display in each result in one page.

Thanks.

Disabling report processing

Hi
I have to disable report processing at certain times for some reports. It's
like when you don't have selected a value in a combo parameter. I have a
function that returns true if you can view the report or false if don't.
Any ideas?
AndrésWhen you configure your parameter, ensure you do not allow null.

Disabling One Input Parameter...?

Hi All,
I am creating a report which calls for four input parameters A, B, C, and D.
How can I disable D if A, B, and C are selected or disable C if A, B, and D
are selected?
Thx, ChuckThis is not supported. The only way to achieve this right now is to
implement your own front end application which handles the parameter UI and
then e.g. uses SOAP or URL-access to pass the "validated" parameters to the
report server.

> Thx, Chuck|||Set a table up in your database called "NILL" with a column called "NILL"
as well. Use the from query section in the report parameters and create a
query which points to this table. Set your Non-queried Default value to
NILL.
Create a dataset for each report parameter. Some duplication, but is quick
and it works. Have done it for database table and columns names where one
or more can be selected and the column info is passed back as a results
alias and is returned independently of the other report parameters.
Eg. DBTableNames
Select Name, Id
From sysobjects where xtype ='U'And ID <> 197555541
Order by Name
DBTablesColNames relys on a tablename to be selected before the report will
allow the selection of a column
Select Name
From syscolumns
Where id = (Select Id
From sysobjects
Where xtype = 'U' AND Name = @.DBName)
** @.DBName = Parameters!TableParameter.Value **
I had to implement custom code in order for this to be of benefit.
Eg. Dataset CustomSQL
= Code.GetSQL(Parameters!TableParameter.Value, Parameters!
ColumnParameter.Value, Parameters!EndDate.Value, Parameters!Interval.Value,
Parameters!NoOfIntervals.Value)
As you can see from the dataset CustomSQL this is one of my so called
"Adhoc Reports" which allows the user to choose a database table and one of
its columns with a given date, an iterval (ie. Daily, Monthly etc), and the
No. of intevals. I have three tables on the report page that each call this
dataset passing in their own report parameters.
Note you have to manually set the name and database feild under "Fields" to
Results to get any data back

Disabling JavaScript for report shown in ASP.Net ReportViewer

Hey guys,
I could not figure out a way how to disable rendering using JavaScript when
displaying a report in ReportViewer (ASP.Net). I need to render for browser
with JavaScript disabled. Is there a way to pass those URL parameters to the
report or so? I didn't see where.
Thanks, ChristophYou can do it by using any rendering extentions, but HTML4.0,
but you'd loose all interactive features of the report and report's
pagination.
You'll have to build your own pagination.

Thanks for your help. As far as I know, if I use URL access with something
like this
http://localhost/reportserver?%2fReports%2fMyReport&ReportingPeriod=20054&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=HTML4.0&rc:Parameters=False&rc:JavaScript=False&rc:Toolbar=True
I get a report with:
1) Toolbar and paging support
2) No parameters showing
3) No JavaScript, it's all plain HTML <-- and that's the feature I need
The ReportViewer control has a couple properties like ShowToolbar or
ShowParameterPrompts where I can control #1 and 2. However, there is no
property for #3.
Anybody any idea?
Thanks, Christoph|||The toolbar is controlled by Javascript, once you set ..&rc:Toolbar=True..
it disables it and no javascript present.
You need to write your own code to simulate paging and a toolbar using the
web service approach.
Not too difficult to do.

Hey Oleg,
now I understand. Thanks for the hint. I didn't realize that JavaScript was
coupled with the toolbar. Since most of our reports are single pages reports
anyway I probably won't even have to do the paging.
